As a person who is in a lifelong struggle with mood disorders (Anxiety/Severe Depression, PTSD), nicotine is one of my tools I use to manage this. Choosing to vape instead of smoke, chew, or wear a patch makes this much more flexible and reduces harm, saves $$, saves my sanity. Buproprion (Chantix/Wellbutrin) is a harsh drug- I’ve tried it and the side effects were strong- miss a single dose and you can be topsy-turvy (it is very unpleasant and it could sideline me for days).
Research has long shown that nicotine has cognitive benefits for some users. Smokers are known to suffer less often than non-smokers from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and that is likely to be from the nicotine in tobacco. And researchers are testing nicotine’s potential for treating people with ADHD and other cognitive issues
